1Why this exists

No pitch attached to the first bit.

We build websites for Canberra businesses now. So we had a look at yours the way a customer would, on a phone, and then built what it could be instead. It took a weekend.

Whatever happens next, this is yours. Use it, hand it to whoever looks after your site, or ignore it completely. That’s genuinely fine, and it won’t be weird next time we see you.

2What’s already working

Start with the good news, because there’s a lot of it.

You’re first in the map pack for “asbestos removal canberra”. Above AABS, who have more than twice your reviews. You’re second for “demolition canberra” too. Whatever you’ve been doing with that Google listing, it’s working.

Twelve reviews, all five stars, and you reply to every one of them. Most trades don’t.

Your licence is clean and current. Class B, ARB00025, good until September 2030, no infringements on the register.

So this isn’t a conversation about getting found. You’re found. It’s a conversation about what happens in the ten seconds after someone taps your name.

3What we noticed

Five things, on your current site.

The name at the top of every page says “Multitudes Contractors”. With an S. Your company name, your logo and your footer all say Multitude. Your Google listing has picked up the S as well, so it’s spreading.
There’s no phone number until the bottom of the page, and nothing to tap. On a phone, someone who wants to ring you has to scroll to the footer, read the number, remember it, and dial it by hand. There’s no form either.
Your licence number isn’t anywhere on the site. In Canberra of all places. Every competitor that ranks shows theirs. It’s the one thing a nervous homeowner actually checks.
The first photo on your homepage is a stock picture of a wedding veil in a skip bin. Meanwhile you’ve got eight photos of your own work sitting on a page nobody visits.
The “Explore our services” button on your About page goes back to the homepage. And the one next to it, labelled safety and compliance, downloads a PDF instead.

None of that is a disaster. It’s just a website built by someone who had a hundred other things on that week.

4The website

Every photo in it is one of yours. Every review quote is really on your Google listing. The licence details came off the WorkSafe register. Anything highlighted in yellow is a question for you, not something we’ve made up.

5The three things it does differently

Not a prettier version of the same page.

Your licence, up front

It sits in the top corner of every page with a link straight to the WorkSafe register, so anyone can check it in about a minute. Nobody else in Canberra puts it that high.

Send a photo, get a price

The whole site is built to get a photo of the material onto your phone. That’s how you can actually quote it. No competitor asks for one.

What you don’t do

It says plainly that loose-fill is Class A work and not yours, and that the clearance certificate comes from an independent assessor. Turning work away is the most convincing thing on the page.

And one page nobody local has built

“Asbestos in Canberra homes.” The ACT is the only place in the country with no DIY allowance at all. People search that question constantly and get answers written for Sydney.

6How this would work

The arrangement, and the way out of it.

Our normal plan is Looked After. The website built and kept up to date, your Google listing looked after, and a report every month with the numbers in it. That’s $300 a month.

We’d like to do something different with you, because we want the case study. We haven’t done a trades business yet, and yours is the one we’d want to show people.

What the credit buys, and it’s written into the agreement: we can use your name and your monthly numbers as a case study, you leave us a Google review once the site goes live, and you introduce us to two other trades. That’s it. If you’re not happy to do those, the price is just $300.

At six months we sit down and read three numbers, and we’ll write them down before we start so nobody can move the goalposts: enquiries through the website, calls and taps from your Google listing, and your review count.

If it’s working, you carry on at $300 a month and the six months already count towards the two-year mark where it drops again.

If it isn’t, you keep the website and the domain, we hand over the files, and we shake hands. No exit fee, no hard feelings, nothing awkward.

7Before any of that

What we’d like to understand.

We built this from the outside, so a fair bit of it is guesswork we’d rather you corrected.

Roughly what’s the split between asbestos, strip-outs and plumbing? And which do you want more of?
What’s the biggest demolition job you take on, and who holds the builder licence when it goes past that?
How do you want the plumbing side described? Your licence is journeyperson class and we don’t want to word it wrong.
Where does your work come from at the moment? Builders, Google, word of mouth?
When someone fills in a form, which inbox should it land in, and is that one you actually watch?
Do you quote from photos? What do you need to see to give someone a price?
Is there a typical range for a bathroom you’d be happy to publish? Nobody in Canberra does, and it would be the most-read line on the site.
The eight photos: which job was each one, which suburb, and can we say so?
Have you got a photo of yourself and the crew? The About page is the weakest one without it.
Do you want Queanbeyan and Googong work?
Is it Multitude or Multitudes?

8Where to from here

Two ways this goes.

You want it

We sit down for an hour, go through the questions above, and get access to your Google listing and the domain. The real site is live inside two weeks, and we take a snapshot of where things stand today first, so the six-month numbers mean something.

You don’t

Nothing changes. Fix the spelling in your header this week, though, and put your licence number on the site. Those two are ten minutes and they’re worth doing whoever does them.
